Chambers: Big Pre-Season
Friday, 31st May 2019 14:40

Skipper Luke Chambers says it will be a big pre-season both for the club and for him personally when the squad return to Playford Road on Monday 24th June.

“I’m enjoying the summer and spending time with my family but I’ll be relishing going back for pre-season when it comes around,” Chambers told iFollow Ipswich.

“It will be a massive pre-season for the club and for me personally. The manager is working hard to get players in and, while in an ideal world you would have your squad in place for the start of pre-season, that rarely happens.

“Some players have moved on and it’s going to be a clean slate. It’s an opportunity to build again and get everyone together and going in the same direction.

“For me personally, it’s massive as well. Over the last three or four years I’ve had niggles and not had the fullest of pre-seasons, this year I want to be clear of all that.

“I’ve been working hard over last few weeks and I’ll be remember come June 24th when we go back and we have to hit the ground running.

“Pre-season tests you as a team and as individuals. It’s really tough and we will see what the group is made of over the first week or two.”

The squad travel to Germany for a training camp between July 4th and 15th during which time they’ll play their first friendlies with a game against Paderborn at the Cronsbachstadion in Steinhagen having been confirmed with the Blues set to take part in a tournament which is expected to include two matches the following weekend.

Town will subsequently play domestic friendlies against Colchester United, Cambridge United and Notts County with no further first team pre-season games to be announced.

Meanwhile, former Blues loanee Jonny Williams has been released by Charlton having helped them to return to the Championship via the play-offs.

The Addicks have cited financial reasons for discarding the 25-year-old Wales international, who joined them on a short-term deal from Crystal Palace in January. Swansea have been linked.

Injuries and fitness are more important than results BUT we do need a good pre season, because I'd be so worried if we lose our games or struggle to score in games against Cambridge United and Notts County! This is our biggest pre season in years!

The mere thought of chambers being with us for the next 2 seasons just aint doing it for me. Everything else, such as Lambert, the youths, new signings & different opposition is all good and I'm up for it. Expect another season of calamity gaffs and a nailed on starter.

Let's hope he improves on last seasons shambolic performances but not holding my breath.

Absolutely Cat. Why do so many love Chambers? Definite negative for us if he's a regular starter!!

let's all hope we can win the first 2 games of the season when Chambers is banned then hopefully Lambert will have no reason to change a winning team

Jonny Williams is a hell of a player, i've been thinking about him recently and hoping that they wouldn't win the play offs so that we could get him but the silly boogers released him anyway. I know he's injury prone, but he is also frikkin good.

The 'waffle' has begun from Chambers...you can doing all the talking in the world Luke but you weren't walking the walk last season that's for sure...

It's not even worth commenting!
Chambers was by far the worst player in the Championship and I can't see anything changing in Division 1. We will never get promoted if he is still the captain and gets picked every week! No matter how much sexy football we play when the opposition is on the attack he'll still make stupid mistakes like giving the ball away, not tackling, not jumping for headers, passing to opposition, letting opposition players wander away from him while he marks space, etc, etc
Yet he talks an amazing good talk - you would think he was play centre half for a top premiership team.
If Lambert said to me that he is going to pick Chamber week in week out I will put money on Town being relegated to Division 2.
HOW MUCH WORSE DOES HE HAVE TO PLAY TO BE DROPPED?

Meanwhile back on planet earth....im amazed that our 'player of the year' hasn't been blamed for Brexit and the M1 crash last week that killed 7,even though he was 93 miles away ! I'm not a huge admirer of Chambo as a player, but having attended 22 away games last season I left just as many thinking ..'Pennington was awful' 'Kenlock was appalling' 'Bart is calamitous'. Undoubtedly one of the very few players in the squad who will be able to cope with the rigours and physicality of league1. Once many on here have overcome the difficulties that come with puberty and delinquency, you need to accept that Chambers is going to be first on the teamsheet next season and get behind him as well as all the others if you want to laughingly consider yourself as supporters. Targeting 'scapegoats' is becoming tiresome. And if you've already forgotten....he was 'player of the season' !!

Chepstow blue - fully agree
Robson Wark - if it's not even worth commenting then why bother?

If Williams is fit then sign him! He has so much talent, he could get us promoted.

Chepstowblue referring to our Captain Fantastic Chambers "he was 'player of the season' !!"

I think you'll find that was a really bad April fools joke!

Our Defence requires our midfield turning up in games. Can't put blame totally on last seasons captain and certain players landlord. Not a great idea in many a view

Chambers played a massive part in taking us down.
And he'll play a massive part in us not going back up anytime soon.
A totally shambolic player, defender and team captain.
Other teams will as usual see him as the weak link and exploit. I know I would.....
