Not only that, but Chesterfield have wrapped u[ the title with five games to spare.

Grigg joined Chesterfield from League Two outfit MK Dons last summer, a huge step down as he dropped out of the EFL in order to play under his old Wigan boss, Paul Cook.

The striker spent four years with the Latics before completing a £3million move to Sunderland in the biggest deal that League One has ever seen.

Unfortunately things didn't work out at the Stadium Of Light, but Grigg has since found his golden touch once more.

The 32-year-old has showed his immense quality at National League level, scoring 24 goals to help the club to return to the EFL pyramid.

A cult hero, Grigg was once voted as the joint 25th best player in Europe in the 2015/16 season.

Slotting in alongside Giorgio Chiellino, Hugo Lloris, Paul Pogba and Diego Godin, he was ranked ahead of Kevin De Bruyne and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Chesterfield were part of a blockbuster battle for promotion last term in which Wrexham won the title with a staggering 111 points.

They beat Notts County to automatic promotion, with the Magpies claiming 107 points and going into the play-offs.

It was Chesterfield who faced Notts County in the play-off final, with County securing promotion via a penalty shootout win.

But Chesterfield were not put off by their near-miss, instead using the disappointment as fuel for this season's rampant promotion charge.
