Charlie McCann's second-half strike ensured already-relegated Forest Green finished their campaign with victory over Notts County.

Steve Cotterill's Rovers posted back-to-back wins as they ended their seven-year tenure in the English Football League with a second consecutive demotion.

The Magpies bossed possession, but it was former Forest Green defender Aden Baldwin who had to be on his mettle to block Christian Doidge's strike.

Strong hands from Vicente Reyes saw the Norwich loan goalkeeper pounce on Jim O'Brien's powerful effort as the industrious Dan Crowley carved Rovers open in the 22nd minute.

The tenacious Crowley floated a ball to the back post, but County captain Kyle Cameron was profligate in his placement.

Crowley then fizzed wide on the cusp of a turgid first half.

After the interval, McCann saw his strike inside the box blocked as Rovers looked to break the stalemate.

Rovers missed a gilt-edged chance to take the lead with 23 minutes to go. County keeper Luca Ashby-Hammond dithered on the ball, but Jamie Robson lifted his effort over the crossbar.

However, the hosts found a winner in the 74th minutes when midfielder McCann finished with aplomb inside the box.

Back to back wins, but all too late for FGR. Steve Cotterill has transformed performances, but didn't have the time to save the club from the drop. Rovers will rejuvenate, but it's a hard battle to climb out of the National League.
Deserved win today against a team who had the possession, but posed little threat in front of goal. Good support, though County, all the best for next season.

That was an impressive win today with Keogh out injured. 9 wins in 17 since Cotterill came to the club. 37% win ratio. That would have got us well into the top half over a full season. Remarkable turnaround given the poor recruitment. Onwards to next season.

Well, our directors have made it clear that SM isn't going anywhere. I imagine Macca, JJ and crowley will all be leaving. We had the backbone of a league 1 club. I see the National League beckoning with this manager, the spirit Luke built has been destroyed by this guy.

Yet another pathetic performance endorsed by a pathetic part time manager. Unless the owners wake up and grow a pair Notts could well go back down next season.

No passion, no improvement defensively and significantly worse going forward.

Why so much doom & gloom from our neighbours? Look at the bigger picture. You're back in the EFL & not the dreaded non-league, plus you've consolidated your position in the league. Despite all the D&G you've finished only 3 wins off the P/Offs, with the 3rd highest goals. Maybe give the Manager chance to build his own team, sort the defence & you could be up there next season? Good luck COYS!!!

So pleased this horrible FGR are out of the football league, trying to impose their ideology on fans. Football is not about vegetarianism, if fans want to exercise a meat option let them eat meat, who is Dale Vince to say they cant...I hope we never see them in the football league again

That result sums up Maynard ball perfectly, lots of possession and no end product,not having substitutes ready when you you have an injured player shows immense naivety. If he is in charge next season I do fear for us, I’ve always had faith in our owners but the alarm bells have been ringing with the da base since day one . Sold out way end again and deserved so much more than that .

Top scorer and Top Assister in all four leagues, yet bottom half of table. Macca and Jodi had over 20 goals or assists at the halfway mark. SM arrived, moved the top assister into several other positions which in turn killed Macca's chances of 30+ goals. Our frontline was awesome it was the back 3 and calamitous keeping we needed to fix. SM failed to fix the defence whilst breaking the attack.

Gratz FGR , as a notts fan we are safe, but since luke left our form has been relegation. Sutton beat us twice, and now FGR , never nice to see team be relegated.

well, end of season match, rubbish, the directors at notts, should pay the maynard off, if he there next season, the crowds will go down by half, why they hired him, no experience, in the football league, for cheapness, it will cost them in long run, money wise, get rid, before its too late, i wont be going down, if he still there, davo

notts are spending a of cash, in the summer on a new pitch, a entertainment venue, spend it on a new manager, thats the most important thing to do, notts pitch is the best in that division, do in 2 years time, if the manager and some off the arent sacked, they be back in the national league, davo

Something tells me they won’t ever be a league club again.
I hope at County there’s some serious thinking this summer after one of the oddest collapses in form I’ve witnessed in years.
